Itinerary
Get picked up from your hotel in Marrakech and start your journey crossing the greatest mountain chain in North Africa through the Tichka Pass, at an elevation of 2260 m.a.s.l. Over the road, you will enjoy the verdant valleys, terraced slopes and the panoramic views of the High Atlas. The first main stop will be at the village of Telouat to visiting the remains of El Gloui Family’s Kasbah which was built in the 18th and 19th centuries. Afterwards, the drive will take you along the spectacular valley of Ounilla until you reach Ait Ben Haddou, the most iconic of all Moroccan Kasbahs and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
The fortified village of Ait Ben haddou is situated in the ancient caravan route and was an important stop for traders carrying gold, salt, etc. from the Sahara to the northern cities of Morocco and Europe. Today, the Kasbah is an attractive location for moviemakers. Several movies have been shot in Ait Ben Haddou, including: Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Kingdom of Heaven, Babel and Game of Thrones.
In modern times, significant restoration was carried out under the intervention of UNESCO to preserve the Kasbah’s architectural authenticity.
Lunch will be in a local restaurant and you will be on the way back to Marrakech in mid-afternoon.
