Itinerary
This is an easy excursion from Fes via all of Moulay Idriss, Volubilis and Meknes. Stop first by Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, a small hilltop town lies not far away from Volubilis site. Moulay Idriss takes its name from its founder, Moulay Idriss I. However, the town stands at the base of Mount Zerhoun and has the labyrinthine form of the Medinas of other Morrocan cities. Indeed, it is illustrious particularly amidst Moroccans for the shrine of the aforementioned founder.
Drive another 5 kilometers to Volubilis, the most impressive of the Roman sites in the country. Volubilis contains essentially Roman ruins of an ancient city built in a commanding site. Today, it is a UNESCO world heritage site; listed to be preserved as part of the Roman Empire.
Reach the imperial city of Meknes by early afternoon and tour its focal monuments, e.g. El Hedim square and Bab Mansour. In effect, Meknes prides itself on its friendly atmosphere and is certainly more relaxed than its neighbor (Fez).
Get back to Fez by late afternoon.
